The new DUI
The latest rage, literally, is DEI - so-called Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Canadians have swallowed it with the same lemming-like enthusiasm as they swallowed Covid Psychosis. Once again, the unique aspect of Canadian submissiveness and so-called ‘niceness’ has magnified the foothold that this new snake oil has on its society. I call it DUI - it is similar in that a form of intoxication is affecting people’s ability to navigate.
Symphony Orchestras, like most institutions across the country, have paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for the parasites and grifters that call themselves ‘DEI consultants’. These conmen ( actually most of the ‘trainers’ are Caucasian women ) are yet another example of humans taking every opportunity to benefit from the naïveté and idiocy of their fellow beings.
People are being subjected to ‘mandatory anti-bias training’ as part of the Cultural Revolution driven by the woke ideology that has been blithely accepted by people, though many have no belief in it. As part of this process, a session of ‘training’ consists of a ‘teacher’ who is of course free from all bias and ready to demand that all in the group fall on their swords and get with the programme.
I took part in one recently just to get a direct experience of this social engineering.
These ‘trainings’ are based on a false narrative. First, that everyone is guilty of a crime, amorphously referred to as ‘unconscious bias’. Second, that ‘diversity’ ( to be defined by the teacher of course ) is a non-negotiable state to be achieved in every aspect of life. Third, that ‘equity’ is the goal in all human endeavours.
Most important, discussion is only allowed within the framework of confession and agreement. Any disagreement is tagged as a sign of racism and sociopathy. Whenever I questioned the statements being made in my session, the answer from the teacher was ‘We’ll circle back to that’. She never did circle back to anything.
Let’s break it down, beginning with the fact that skepticism is not allowed in this Brave New World.
The teacher is assuming a position of the anointed priest or priestess who, in no uncertain terms, presupposes that all participants are guilty of transgressions and must atone during the session for their biases, racism, oppressiveness etc. . I was astonished at how quickly the participants in my group recanted and self-flagellated in their haste to be reformed - a reminder of the Moscow show trials in the 1930s.
Canada, and particularly Toronto, is the most diverse populace in the world. Why is there an obsession to find ‘systemic’ problems where they are minimal or non-existent? And why is there no discussion about Diversity itself? Why does the state preclude and discussion and nuanced disagreement with its mandates? Why does Jagmeet Singh cry on media about systemic racism when he is the precise evidence that such systemic racism is not an issue in Canada?
Equality of opportunity is a critical and profound basis for all Classical Liberalism, but ‘equity’ , as in equality of OUTCOME, is a utopian Marxist cynical ideological non-starter that flies in the face of human nature itself. I don’t need to point out the fact that people will never be ‘equal’ in terms of talent, intelligence, work ethic, abilities etc etc, and to suggest otherwise is simply untrue. No Government mandates can change human nature, and history shows how badly these experiments end - as in Stalinist Russia, Nazi Germany and Maoist China.
Inclusion ( whatever that means ) is again one of these woke aphorisms that are devoid of any earnest intention. The Indigenous 'land acknowledgment’ ritual now imbedded like a prayer in Canadian performances is just one example of the empty gesture that is put in place of any meaningful action in the name of ridding people of media induced guilt. Like the age old ‘indulgences to the Church’, the idea is to buy off one’s guilt with this meaningless language. Words seem to be more important than action.
The DEI current is sweeping people along with it, while padding the pockets of the woke grifters who benefit from the lucrative 'consulting fees. Orchestras cut their musicians pay in order to add these consultants to the payroll. The sad part is that the musicians endorse it.
The key here is that many people view it just as I do, yet those same people remain quiet or even offer words of submission in order to avoid being shamed or shunned. Unfortunately, this is also human nature, and one can only hope that people will increasingly wake up and push back as the pendulum swings further.
