Kanada Deh?

I have the good fortune to have escaped - for a brief respite - The Peoples’ Republic of Safety and Risk Aversion - aka Kanada. The freedom and warmth of Florida are the antidote to the cold worship of the State that is Kanada.

Kanadians are a soft, fragile and gentle lot in general, with nary a sign of bold personalities or those willing to actually say No. I have just spent four months working and living right in the centre of this woke population. People are still wandering in masks, with fear in their eyes and rushing home to test every day. In the music business this type of sad behaviour is not just considered normal, it is considered mandatory. All of the performing arts in Kanada have become vassals and mouthpieces of the State. There is nothing of interest going on in Kanada and the only people who don’t know it are the people in Kanada.

The so-called Prime Minister today made a speech about Kanada in which he proudly emphasized that the most important quality of the country is ‘safety’. The irony that the capital city was full of police for this day seems to have been lost on this sad excuse for a leader. This is a man who fled from his capital when a harmless group of truckers had the audacity to ask for the right to work.

Putting aside his pusillanimous essence - if this shadow of a man actually has an essence - imagine a country that values ‘safety from a cold’ above freedom? This strikes me as the summation of the last two and a half years. Kanada has taken the lead as the country that just cannot move forward, cannot let go of the psychosis, fear, and compulsion to control other people that has characterized the Covid era.

The protests today in Ottawa give me hope, just as the truckers did. There are a small number of Kanadians who actually are still awake, and I applaud their willingness to say No. But I have also seen the results of a demographic - musicians - that are cowering in the face of getting a cold. They shun people who might know someone who sneezed the day before. If word gets out that someone is not vaccinated, the mob gathers with torches to see that retribution forces the person to be cancelled. They look to the Government as their saviour and even when the Government edicts have ended, they insist on their continuance ‘for their safety’.

Good compliant citizens of a country that is proud of it.

It is worthwhile remembering that Kanada was founded by people who were losers ( in the American Revolution ) and people who sent the Mounted Police to the west to assure their ‘safety’ before they ventured out themselves. This is the banal and even ignominious origin story of the Peoples Republic of Kanada. There are no stories of fighting for freedom, for rejecting foreign tyranny, for insisting on self-determination.

No, the frigid expanse of Kanada has always been most concerned with safety and risk avoidance. Thus, their weak, precious, preachy, vacuous and woke Prime Minister is perhaps exactly what they deserve.
