July 4
What a difference it makes to be in a country that has a colourful and dynamic history, a country based on one of the most noble and daring experiments in history.
As the attached article references, The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution of the United States stand as two of the most extraordinary historical documents on par with Magna Carta. A product of the Enlightenment, they stand as two beacons for anyone with a sense of freedom.
The concept of being a citizen instead of a subject was revolutionary for the time. The notion of the opportunity of upward mobility was an extraordinary concept in an era when aristocracies ruled all of Western Culture, and indeed most of the world. Imagine a country where anything is possible, with hard work and tenacity?
I could go into a detailed analysis of all of the financial, scientific, technological ,political and cultural innovations brought by the United States since then, but it would take pages and pages. I could go into all of the artistic areas that have flourished from this dynamic melting pot - Jazz, country and western music, modern dance, modern art, novelists etc etc., but it would take an entire book to do it.
I could go into the fact that during this hideous Covid collapse of all the supposed Western values of Liberty and Accountable Government, in favour of tyranny and fascist collaboration between Government, ‘Science’, Media and Corporations, the United States has been the only country where there has been true opposition, true judiciary independence, true civic courage.
Is the country messy, chaotic, frustrating, puzzling, and inexplicably caught up in endless turmoil?
Yes - this may be the price of what the Founding Fathers of the Country admitted was a risky experiment.
Unlike its sad neighbour to the north - Kanada - with its cult of safety and total risk aversion, its fear of honesty and debate, and its total lack of constitutional protection for its hapless and lemming-like citizens, the United States is a difficult animal to tame and a difficult populace to subjugate. The Kanadian people are proud of their Government mandated ‘safety’, while unaware that their country has become a rump of its former self in every respect. There is nothing going on in Kanada except ‘safety’.
In the fledgling United States, The Framers understood that Governments are bound to be corrupt, and therefore should be limited and accountable. The tripartite design of the co-equal branches of its Government are a testimony to this foresight.
I celebrate that. It may be one of the last outposts for the defence of individual liberty and for local Government. States’ rights are a wonderful concept that are a great nod to diversity in all forms and a last gasp of pushing back the Federal juggernaut, the result of which we can see in Kanada’s dictatorial regime.
Freedom is risky. Limited Government is an uphill battle. The present attempt by the elite to sidetrack and destabilize this nation with endless trivial debates like DEI is something one must hope will be beaten back by the underlying spirit of the country.
Today I send birthday wishes to one of the great experiments in Nation building that the world will ever see.
