Diversity Dilemma

One of the many things about which I have become very clear about over the last several years, and in particular during this Covid Psychosis year, is the Orwellian manner in which the word ‘diversity’ is used by Liberals and the left in general.

Diversity is almost the centrepiece of so-called Progressive politics. The word has been commandeered and put at the helm of the great ship of ‘progress’. Woe be it to any who dare not bend the knee to this word, even in the absence of any definition or context. Who needs context when simply uttering the word solemnly will do the trick in proving your credentials as a woke Progressive?

Let’s put aside, for a moment, what the data show in terms of the correlation between ‘diversity’ and ‘happiness’ on a geopolitical level. Let’s also narrow the context here to mean the movement afoot to have mandated quotas in terms of race and gender.

It is the old battle between ‘equality of opportunity’ versus ‘equality of outcome’.

The woke mob have introduced the new make work job title and workplace goal that is a must have for all Canadian institutions now - ‘Inclusiveness, Diversity and Equality’. Never mind good old excellent Management skills, we are now on another playing field where ticking boxes is the goal and competence an antiquated concept..

A friend of mine asked me a while ago ‘Why do I have to be diverse?’ ‘ What if I don’t want to be diverse?’ ‘Why is the Government telling me to be diverse with my own tax dollars?’ ‘Why is nobody telling Africa or Scandinavia to be diverse?’

I confess that I was startled, if only because the sheer directness of the questions was like a cleansing tonic. I carefully considered possible answers, and all i could come up with was the notion that the political classes have decided that ‘diversity’ is part of the social engineering agenda - period. Ironically, it would seem that diversity of opinion is not part of that goal however, as no disagreement is allowed. No academic papers criticizing or examining the merits of the idea are allowed. In fact, if someone speaks against the dubious goal of diversity, they are labelled as ‘right wing’ or ‘racists’.

From my personal experience, I have learned that the people who spend the most time proselytizing about diversity are most often the people who are least diverse in their own lifestyle, whether it be friends, mates, cultural activities etc.. Without doubt, they also have no room for diversity in thinking, since they invariably do not allow contrary beliefs in the matter. In fact, many of these woke folk even shut down a relationship if there are any diverse opinions involved!

i looked into the ‘happiness’ studies in countries and I found that Scandinavia wins hands down consistently in the expressed happiness of people on a country by country comparison. Is it just a coincidence that they are the least diverse in makeup of population? And by the way, why isn’t anyone complaining about African countries not working towards diversity? My friend had good questions, and the answers are rather bleak and disappointing.

It would seem that ‘diversity’ is a good thing when it comes to genes and investment strategy, but other than that, the jury is most definitely out.
